Sound analysis: blog tasks
1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:
- Diegetic and non-diegetic sound
- diegetic-dialouge between the characters and there are denotations of fear in the characters voices.Furthermore their dialouge creates an enigma and action code as we as an audience are eager to see what paranormal/abnormal activities happen next.
- non-digetic sound-contrapuntal to the actual clips itself. This is because the voice over is created in a calm stern tone with could create an enigma code due to the fact that the clips are horrific.
- Parallel and contrapuntal sound
- parallel-when the paranormal activities happen and the girl levitates into the air the music is parallel as it connotates to the horror genre.
- contrapuntal-at the start of the clips there are two girls doing the skipping ropes. The music subverts normality as well as creates an enigma code because most people would not accosiate this music with this clip.
- Sound bridges-there is the same music throughout the clips, however at some points the music continues over clips which helps to create suspense within it.
Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip:
- Music-music is slow paced at the start and slowly becomes fast paced and creates suspense
- Dialogue-normal dialouge however it creates an enigma code as the phrase 'do not fall asleep' causes the audience to fear the effects of falling asleep
- Voiceover-contrapuntal to the actual clips itself. This is because the voice over is created in a calm stern tone with could create an enigma code due to the fact that the clips are horrific.
- Sound effects-screaming,water sounds,abnormal movement
You also need to highlight or put in bold any use of media language.
