1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson.
Costume:The costume of these characters are very casual and display everyday wear.However they could connote how they want to blend in with society.This is because the colours black white grey and beige blend in with buildings and people.It allows them to fit in without being tracked by the people around them.As well as this in society these colours are worn by everyone because they are casual and are not eye appealing to people.Overall the chosen costume in this still image is used to communicate the idea of normality and blending in with the people around you to possibly not get caught by someone.Lighting;The lighting of this image is normal outside everyday lighting.However there is a sense of high-key lighting on every character.This could be delibertly done so these characters can blend in with everyone else.This may be seen as an enigma code because of the fact that there is high-key lighting on everyone else even though these people may be the protagonists.Actors:The actors in the still image are all positioned around a chair trying to be normal.However their facial expressions create an enigma and action code.This is because 3/4 of the characters show fear in their face.This could automatically connote that they have been caught by someone who they have been hiding from all this time.The fourth character who shows a calm face could connote to the audience that he already has a plan in mind on how to escape or overcome this drama.Makeup and hair:There is no makeup within this still image.However their hair is seen as messy and not been brushed.This just denotes messy hair,however it could connote that they are on the run and there is no time to fix hair as it will get ruined again straight away.Props:The props used are cups and food.This reinforces the idea of normality since it is a cafe.These characters want to act as normal as possible so that they do not get caught and seem like an outcast from the normal people around them.Setting:The setting is deliberatly casual to display an enigma code for the audience.This is because going to a cafe is a normal everyday thing and no drama normally stirs up there.This communicates the idea that a cafe is a safe place for these people to blend in as it should be a drama free place.practically a cafe displays as a very busy quiet place for people to relax and refresh their mindset.
2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.
Costume:0.00-0.27 seconds it displays the man and women in normal casual clothing which juxtaposes the man across them who is in all black clothing.This could connote death?.However no one has actually physically died.This could be interpretated that the main characters mentality has died and has been posessed into a different person.The topic is like death because the original persons character has died.From 0.27-0.35 it displays family clothing and their normal everyday wear.At 0.36-2.36 the casual clothing continues.However the clothes create an enigma code because they get ruined as the trailer progresses.Lighting:0.00-0.16 displays there is high key lighting on the table as well as low key lighting which displays a binary opposition.This is because the low key lighting is on the box and drains the happiness from the room.There is low key lighting in the family house between 0.30-0.36 foreshadows an action code because dark lighting connotes horror and disaster.The only highkey lighting shown is the lightning which is accosiated with horror.Since there is lowkey lighting all around the house it creates an eerie feeling and connotes an unfamiliar presense.Actors:0.00-0.30-placed all around a table in a fixed position which displays their formality however there is still urgency to the problem.0.25 seconds-Displays scared facial expressions 'sound came from an 11 year old girl'.This also reinforces an enigma and action code to the audience.The juxtoposition between the age of the girl and the sound portrays binary oppositions.0.30-0.35 shows how the family is presented.Their fixed position and straight posture reinforces the respect they have for guests.0.40-0.42-is an extreme close up of screaming which displays an action code.Is it a nightmare?Is she being possesed?0.54-0.58 displays the little girl is possesed and shows aggression towards normal people.Makeup and hair:0.00-1.00-Hair is seen as normal,neat and perfect and no enigma or action code is yet to be seen.1.01-2.36-hair is messy as the plot progresses enigma and action code has been established which is a typical film convention.Props:The recorder displays the concerning voice which creates an unsettling tone.The ruined clothing scatterd on the floor makes the house not have its safe,warm and comforting feeling anymore.The tv turning on by itself is paranormal activites.Children singing in a choir shows religious connotations of church..The crosses moving and turning upside down shows connotations of the devil.It could also be connoted as binary oppositions between christianity and satanism.setting:Dining room at 0.30 seconds juxtaposes the warm feeling of family and happiness as it is a place to eat.This is because of the paranormal activies that are being spoken about.0.37-0.43 shows a broken house which could connote the broken family because everything is falling apart.The cruxifix room shows religion such as christanity and how God protects us from spirits.
costume:casual wear displays airport outfits that everybody wears in society.Flight attendant outfit plus the pilot is the typical outfits they wear and it portrays them as formal.Antagonists outfits juxtaposes everybody elses outfits.It reinforces stereotypes due to the fact that criminals wear hoodies to cover their faces.Lighting:The lowkey lighting creates an action code as it causes characters to panick.The highkey lighting reflects on the criminals as well as the protagonists.However the lighting is possitioned diffrently.This could be due to the fact that the criminals asssert more dominance over everybody else.Actors:The antagonists are very violent and aggressive through their facial expressions.This is because they try to reinforce their dominance over everyone else.The protagonists show leadership and teamwork skills as they try to restore normal order.makeup and hair:Start-perfect makeup and hair,everybody is happy,Middle-makeup is ruined and everybody is scared,end-happy people and makeup looks better.Props:The jewllery is able to be used as a weapon due to its jagged ends.The guns are accosiated with violence and reinforces them too keep their dominance as it protects them.The milk bottle 'lets shake things up' creates an enigma and action code because the characters attempt to rise against the criminals.Setting:The airplane-going hope to families and being reunited with them,Head office-watches the every move of the plane and how they attempt to save it,Home-being raided shows the invasion of privacy.
Overall both film trailers display the story of an equlibrium
